PROGRAM
house
This home’s client is a 45-year-old single chef that spends her weekdays working at a restaurant. On weekends, the chef invites friends into her home and hosts day long parties she cooks for.
The building orients itself orthogonally from the north to the south, drawing lines of structure from key architectural elements on site. The primary living space is elevated off the ground, creating a dialogue between street-scape and backyards. Program modules pierce a perimeter volume defined by the structure and begin to have sculptural relationships with the ground. At times, the footprint of program volumes become simple plant/herb beds. These conditions allow for the ‘ground floor’ to become a public gathering space occupied by greenery, benches, and grilles.
